IPL Trivia: Consecutive Ducks on Debut-THIS Aussie Cricketer Holds an Unwanted IPL Record

In cricket, the worst thing that can happen to a person is an out on duck

In cricket, nobody wishes to go out on a duck. It doesn't matter whether the player is a bowler or a batter; everybody wishes to put some runs on the board. It becomes a daunting memory if one gets out on a duck on their debut.

In this player's case, he got out on his debut in the Indian Premier League (IPL), followed by two more ducks in the next two games. In short, he needed four games to open his account with runs – an embarrassing feat.

Turner's turmoil

The unfortunate player's name is Ashton Turner—a name most will not be able to recall, given that he played less than 50 matches on the international grid.

Picked by the Pink

Turner had a taste of franchise cricket with the Perth Scorchers of the Big Bash League in 2012, but it was only in 2019 that he was picked by an IPL franchise, i.e., Rajasthan Royals.

Three ducks

Turner's first match was against the Kings XI Punjab. Ravichandran Ashwin bowled a slow pitch, but it turned out like Turner had never imagined. The ball was up in the air and into David Miller's safe hands.

Turner's second IPL game was against the Mumbai Indians, and this time, he fell prey to a Jasprit Bumrah delivery that caught him off guard and got him out for an LBW.

The Aussie's third IPL game was against Delhi Capitals, and once again, he was caught out off an Ishant Sharma delivery.

Three matches, three ducks and an embarrassing debut.

International recognition

Turner's exploits weren't limited to the IPL. Before his ducks in the tournament, he had gone out for two more ducks in a T20 game versus India and prior to that, in a game against Adelaide Strikers.

Therefore, he is now recognised in the world of cricket as the man with the most consecutive ducks in the T20 format.
