IPL Owners With a Portfolio of Other Sports Teams

Over the years, IPL team owners have expanded their business from IPL to other leagues across the globe

The Indian Premier League (IPL) is the most valuable domestic cricket league in the world. Therefore, it is no surprise that IPL team owners since 2008 have amassed significant wealth from their franchises. In fact, the profit has been so high that they have ventured not only into other domestic T20 leagues across the globe but also invested in other teams from other sports.

Ahead of the 2026 season, let us check out IPL team owners who have invested in other teams across the globe.

Mumbai Indians

Owned by Indiawin Sports Private Limited, which is a wholly owned subsidiary of Reliance Industries Limited, it is no surprise that the Mumbai Indians have a sister team in other T20 domestic leagues. The Mumbai Indians have the MI Emirates in the ILT20, the MI New York in Major League Cricket, MI London in the Hundred, and the MI Cape Town in the SA20.

Knight Riders Group

Founded by the trio of Bollywood actor Shah Rukh Khan (via Red Chillies Entertainment), actress Juhi Chawla, and her spouse, businessman Jay Mehta, Kolkata Knight Riders isn’t just a team but a business group known as the Knight Riders Group. The group owns the Trinbago Knight Riders in the CPL, the Abu Dhabi Knight Riders in the ILT20, and the Los Angeles Knight Riders in Major League Cricket.

Chennai Super Kings

Five-time IPL champions Chennai Super Kings is operated by the Indian Cements group, which also has Joburg Super Kings in SA20 and the Texas Super Kings in Major League Cricket. One more team, and they'll be on par with the Indians and the Knight Riders.

Rajasthan Royals

Owned and operated by the Royals Sports Group, the Rajasthan Royals have sister teams, i.e., the Barbados Royals in the CPL and the Paarl Royals in the SA20.

Sunrisers Hyderabad

Sunrisers Hyderabad, operated by the Sun Group, have also ventured into other domestic T20 leagues. The team started with the Sunrisers Eastern Cape in SA20, followed by a 2025 purchase of a stake in the Northern Superchargers in The Hundred.

Delhi Capitals

Delhi Capitals, owned and operated by the GMR Group and JSW Sports, has the largest investment portfolio in other teams and sports. In cricket, they own the Dubai Capitals in the ILT20, the Pretoria Capitals in the SA20, and the Seattle Orcas in Major League Cricket.

Other sports in which they have invested include Bengaluru FC in the Indian Super League, Haryana Steelers in Pro Kabaddi, Soorma Hockey Club via JSW Sports, UP Yoddhas in Pro Kabaddi, and Telugu Yoddhas in Ultimate Kho Kho via GMR Sports.

Lucknow Super Giants

Owned by the Sanjeev Goenka-led RPSG Group, the Lucknow Super Giants have sister cricket teams, Durban’s Super Giants in SA20 and the Manchester Super Giants in The Hundred. In football, RPSG owns Mohun Bagan Super Giant in the Indian Super League.
