At 15, Sooryavanshi rattled the best of bowlers in the IPL. However, on four occasions, the bowlers found a way around him

At the beginning of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026, who would’ve thought that a 15-year-old would surpass several legendary and senior batters and walk away with the Orange Cap at the end of the season? Rajasthan Royals’ miracle boy, Vaibhav Sooryavanshi, did the impossible by rattling the best of bowlers throughout the tournament. However, on four occasions, he was dismissed for single-digit scores.

In this IPL 2026 recap article, let us recall those four innings.

Duck vs. Hinge

In the match 21 versus Sunrisers Hyderabad, Praful Hinge shocked Vaibhav Sooryavanshi with a golden duck. The game also saw Hinge dismiss the likes of Dhruv Jurel and Lhuan de Pretorius for ducks, which derailed Rajasthan Royals' chase of Hyderabad’s 219-run target. The Sunrisers won the game by 57 runs.

Eight runs vs. LSG

Sooryavanshi was once again dismissed by a catch in one of the matches versus the Lucknow Super Giants (LSG). He was removed by Mohsin Khan, with Dhruv Rathi collecting the catch. In the same over, Khan also dismissed Shimron Hetmyer. However, the Royals eventually won the game by 40 runs.

Bowled vs. Jamieson

Vaibhav Sooryavanshi was shocked when an inswinger from Kyle Jamieson scalped his wicket versus the Delhi Capitals. Jamieson celebrated Vaibhav’s wicket as if he had won the World Cup, which shows how important it is for the opposing team to remove Vaibhav early from the crease. The fear the youngster has instilled in international and domestic bowlers is unreal.

Four runs vs. MI

Finally, in a game versus the Mumbai Indians, Vaibhav registered his fourth innings with a single-digit score. Against Deepak Chahar’s delivery, a mistimed hit made the ball go straight up in the air and land safely into the hands of Naman Dhir, who did not botch up the chance. Chahar dismissed Sooryavanshi for merely four runs.

If these four bowlers had not removed Sooryavanshi early, he would’ve definitely breached 800 or even 900 runs this season. The youngster ended the tournament with 776 despite playing one less game than Shubman Gill, who finished as the second-highest run scorer of the season. In 327 balls, Vaibhav hit 135 boundaries, including 72 sixes, and registered six 50+ innings. He even made a century in 36 balls and missed Chris Gayle’s record of 100 in 30 balls by three runs.

Sooryavanshi is here to stay for a long time, but the above four bowlers deserve a special shoutout because the wicket of Vaibhav is now a special achievement in the IPL.
