Mohit Suri’s Saiyaara may have boosted Aneet Padda’s fan following, but she proved her mettle in Amazon Prime’s Big Girls Don’t Cry (BGDC)
In 2023, Tripti Dimri became a sensation in the nation with her role in Animal – a movie that is, to say the least, problematic. However, cinephiles knew her from ‘Laila Majnu’, ‘Bulbul’, and ‘Qala’ – films that had far more interesting plots and complex roles. Not a shocker because as always, the majority of the Indian masses only paid heed when Dimri got into the commercial film business.
The tale is no different for 2025’s new Bollywood sensation Aneet Padda, thanks to Mohit Suri’s romantic venture Saiyaara, which also stars Ahaan Panday. The success of Saiyaara and its cast is to be celebrated, given that newcomers are having a hard time in Bollywood.
However, it is disappointing that Aneet Padda wasn’t celebrated last year when she nailed the role of Roohi in Amazon Prime’s Big Girls Don’t Cry. In fact, even after she became a sensation, not many thought of watching the web series. It is only hardcore film enthusiasts who were either aware of Padda’s acting prowess or are now going back to the series to relish more of her brilliant acting.
Big Girls Don’t Cry
For the uninitiated, Big Girls Don’t Cry is a web series on Amazon Prime that revolves around a group of girls in their senior year of school who live in a boarding. All the characters have multiple issues in their lives, ranging from financial to parental. How they navigate through these hurdles while trying to achieve their goals makes the series a fine coming-of-age drama.
Padda as Roohi
While the entire cast has done a great job, it is truly Aneet Padda as Roohi who shines throughout the series. Dealing with parental issues, Padda is caught in constant fights between her mother and father, which leads her to an emotional breakdown. Not to forget, her relationship with her best friend, JC, also takes a hit when Padda unintentionally gets involved with a boy who is liked by JC. Padda’s character has multiple layers that are gradually revealed as the series progresses.
On one end, Padda is sort of the leader of the group, keeping everybody together while giving a tough time to other rival girl gangs in the school. However, when it comes to her life, she cannot control many elements, and as the series moves forward, Padda’s life spirals out of control. From hugging her friends to crying in the bedroom, everything from Padda feels real and natural.
Padda, the singer
Aneet Padda in Prime’s series wasn’t all about acting. She also sang a song for the series named ‘Masoom’. Padda was unsure about pitching the song, but the BGDC cast convinced her to. Finally, with producer Rahul Paisa, the song became a reality.
With her newfound popularity, Padda is expected to be part of several upcoming massive Bollywood projects. However, in this birthday month of Aneet Padda, we feel it is time for the masses to shower her with praises for BGDC.
