Amidst all, it was expected that Kamala Harris would be announced as Presidential candidate from democrats, but who would be her running mate? It's going to be Tim Walz. The Governor of Minnesota, 60-year-old Timothy James Walz a.k.a. Tim Walz was a longtime educator. Born in Nebraska, Tim joined the Army National Guard before working in a blue-collar manufacturing job.
Walz’s father was a public school administrator and his mother served as a community activist. In a political campaign he mentioned his parents “taught him the values of hard work and community service.”

He graduated from Chadron State College, Nebraska and moved to Minnesota in 1996. Before appearing in politics for Congress, he served as a high school social studies teacher and football coach. After entering into Political arena in 2006, he represented a conservative-leaning rural district, mostly dominated by Republicans.
Walz recently went viral with his remarks at “White Dudes for Harris” virtual meetup.
Gwen was born in Glencoe, Minnesota, in a family where her parents were teachers and small-business owners. She studied at Gustavus Adolphus College and then in Minnesota State University.

Personal Life: According to her official biography, Tim Walz married Gwen Walz in 1994. Post marriage, she convinced Tim to move permanently to Minnesota. There, they continued their careers as educators at Mankato West High School.
They have two children named Hope, recently graduated from Montana State University and Gus, studying in high school.
The Walz family has a strong affinity towards pets. In September 2019, they introduced Scout, a 3-month-old black Lab mix, which they rescued. In Christmas 2023, the family adopted a cat named Honey.

Teaching Career: Similar to Tim, Gwen also carries educator roots. She had an elaborate teaching career in Nebraska. She served as an administrator and coordinator for the Mankato Area Public Schools where her husband worked closely during initial days of politics.
Teaching in Prisons: The Bard Prison Initiative in New York, where she has worked for a long time, describes; “Throughout her life, Gwen has been working passionately to build a more just and equitable world. From teaching at prisons and promoting criminal justice reform, to advocating for the LGBTQ movement, Gwen's desire to learn from and work with others to advance meaningful change is her guiding principle.”

Gwen’s Journey as Minnesota first lady: According to a report from Minnesota Public Radio; “Her first public event as Minnesota first lady was a rally in support of voting rights restoration for felons. She has also toured state prisons and helped recruit an assistant commissioner working to install a new college curriculum behind prison walls, among other things.”
“We’ve always worked closely together,” Gwen Walz said in an interview with Minnesota Public Radio in 2019.
