The team announced on Thursday that the former Chelsea and Leicester City midfielder will succeed Flavio Becca as owner as of July 1.
N'Golo Kante may have transferred to Saudi Arabian champion Al-Ittihad. However, he will still be connected to European club football. This is because he has approved a contract to purchase Royal Excelsior Virton of Belgium's third level. The club announced that the French World Cup winner will be the owner starting July 1.
"Flavio is obviously extremely happy to be able to hand over the keys of the club to N'Golo Kante, a player of great class, not only for his footballing qualities but also and above all for his universally recognised human qualities," it said in a statement, as quoted by Sportstar.
"Flavio is handing over a club in good financial health, free of all debt. A new board of directors will be appointed in the next few days," the statement ended.
He is regarded as one of the top midfielders in the world and is renowned for his defensive prowess and work ethic. Since Eric Cantona in 1992 and 1993, he is also the first outfield player to have won back-to-back English league championships with various clubs.
According to Saudi media, Kante's contract with Al-Ittihad is for two years and will cost 100 million euros ($108.69 million).
