German legacy automobile manufacturer has launched the i5 M60 xDrive, one the most performance oriented electric vehicles from the Bimmer’s stable. Under the hood, the car pack two integrate electric motors that power two axles, one at the front and one at the rear. The car has a top speed of 230 kilometres per hour with a 0-100 kilometres per hour sprint in 3.8 seconds.
Together, the two engines generate a peak power of 601bhp and a maximum torque of 795Nm, drawing power from an 81.2 kWh battery pack. The Bimmer offers a driving range of 516 kilometres on a single charged session. BMW is offering a complimentary wall box AC charger of 11kW, whereas one can purchase the optional 22kW AC charger.
At the car’s launch, VikramPawah, the President of BMW Group India, said, “With the first-ever BMW 15 M60 xDrive, you can expect nothing short of a completely electrifying experience. It brings together the legacy of eight generations of the sportiest executive sedan, the ‘5’, adrenaline-laden performance of ‘M’ and the sustainability of ‘I’.” This new Bimmer carries a hefty price tag of INR 1.20 crore, ex-showroom.
While the car does not have a direct rival, here are some of other performance electric cars one can checkout in India.
In India, the Porsche Taycan’s price tag varies between INR 1.61 crore and INR 2.44 crore, ex-showroom. Powered a rear-wheel drive single motor, the car draws its power from a 79.2kWh battery pack and generates a peak power of 326bhp and a maximum torque of 345Nm. When the car is set in Overboost mode, one can generate 408bhp using launch control. In terms of performance, the Taycan can hit 100 kilometres per hour mark in 5.4 seconds with a top speed of 230 kilometres per hour.

Priced between INR 1.81 crore and INR 2.06 crore, ex-showroom, the Audi e-Tron GT is an all-wheel-drive powered by an electric motor that makes a peak power of 530hp and a peak torque of 630Nm. The car is armed with a 93kWh battery pack with a WLTP driving range of 388-500 kilometres. In terms of performance, the car has a top speed of more than 200 kilometres per hour and can hit the 100 kilometres per hour mark from a standstill in 4.1 seconds. The Audi e-Tron GT also has an RS version, which performs even better than the base variant --- 646hp and 100 kilometres per hour in 3.3 seconds.
Another competitive of the new Bimmer is the Jaguar I-Pace, which starts at INR 1.20 crore, ex-showroom with three variants on offer. The Jaguar I-Pace is armed with a 90kWh lithium-Ion battery pack, which helps the electric motors to generate 389bhp peak power and a maximum torque of 696Nm with a 0 to 100 kilometres per hour capability in 4.8 seconds. Once fully charged, the car offers a WLTP driving range of 470 kilometres in a single charged session.
