Total seize banned

Israel’s idea of banning the Gaza Strip completely has been thwarted by the United Nations’ statement. The organisation deems it unlawful and, in a statement, said, “The imposition of sieges that endanger the lives of civilians by depriving them of goods essential for their survival is prohibited under international humanitarian law.”

On day four of the ongoing conflict, Israel bombarded Gaza City, which led to the deaths of two Palestinian journalists, reported Al Jazeera. On the other hand, Cyprus has announced that it is ready to evacuate nationals from third countries.

Army begins restoring connectivity 

While Sikkim continues to deal with the destruction of the flash flood, on day six, the Indian Army’s Trishakti Corps has started restoring connectivity in the state. Along with the Border Roads Organisation (BRO) and the Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP), the Corps is working on restoring remote villages to the main areas of Sikkim.

On X, the Corps said, “In an effort to reconnect North Sikkim, troops of Trishakti Corps Indian Army along with BRO, ITBP & locals of the area are undertaking extensive operations to restore connectivity. New footbridges are being laid, and restoration work is underway to reconnect Sikkim.”

 

Assembly polls to begin in five states

The election commission announced on Monday that Assembly Polls will take place between November 7 and 30 in five Indian states, such as Mizoram, Chhattisgarh, Telangana, Madhya Pradesh, and Rajasthan.

In Rajasthan and Chhattisgarh, the Congress has governments, whereas Madhya Pradesh is ruled by the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). On the other hand, the states of Telangana and Mizoram are ruled by the regional parties Bharat Rashtra Samithi and Mizo National Front, respectively.

The results of the polls will be announced on December 3.

Ambani tops the 360 ONE Wealth Hurun India Rich List 2023

Reliance Industries chairman Mukesh Ambani has topped the 360 ONE Wealth Hurun India Rich List 2023 by overtaking Adani Group chairman Gautam Adani.

Compared to last year, Ambani’s wealth has increased by 2 per cent to INR 8,08,700 crore, whereas Adani’s wealth has gone down by a whopping 57 per cent to INR 4,74,800 crore.

The third position is held by Pune’s Cyrus S Poonawalla and family, whereas the fourth and fifth spots are held by Shiv Nadar and Gopichand Hinduja.

Gill’s spot in doubt

On Monday evening, India’s star batsman Shubman Gill was discharged from a Chennai hospital, where he was admitted due to dengue. However, although Gill has been discharged, the youngster is still in a stage of recovery, because of which he will miss tomorrow’s bout against Afghanistan.

Selectors are now looking at a replacement for Gill because they believe he will not feature against Pakistan on October 14. As per a PTI report, Ruturaj Gaikwad and Yashasvi Jaiswal are the two players who may be called to open in place of Gill.

For the record, Ishan Kishan was selected to replace Gill in the opening match against Australia, but a golden duck thwarted his chance of playing the World Cup further.

Festive season boosts the sale of vehicles

The Federation of Automobile Dealers Association has said that, compared to September 2022, last month witnessed a boost in vehicle sales due to the festive season. In September last year, 2,79,137 units of passenger vehicles were registered, but last month, the number increased to 3,32,248 units. The number is likely to rise further in October and November 2023.
