If it were 7, we could have said "Thala for a reason." But okay!
You know, a lot of people have quirky obsessions. Some wear the same bracelet before an important meeting, others always step into a room with their right foot first, while some prefer carrying a particular pen during exams or interviews. Ranbir Kapoor’s fascination, however, is with the number 8. He considers it his lucky charm, and it can be spotted everywhere from his car license plates to his football jerseys. The number even made its way into Alia Bhatt’s wedding celebrations, as her kaleere featured the number 8. She shared eight pictures from their wedding on Instagram, and her chooda set had a total of eight bangles. It appeared in their mehndi designs, rings, and various ornaments, and the couple even decided to get matching tattoos of the number. Now, what is it about 8 that holds such significance for Ranbir? Well, on his birthday, let’s uncover the story behind this intriguing obsession.
What's The Reason?
It's not superstition, but a deep personal connection. Ranbir's mother, Neetu Kapoor, was born on July 8, and he feels a great bond with the number because of her. In an interview, he shared, “There's no reason, like there's no superstition attached to it. My mother's birthday is on the eighth (July), and it's just a number that I connected with, you know, I like the way it looks; it looks like an infinity.” For him, '8' symbolizes love, continuity, and connection.
He further explained, “All my cars are number eight, my football jersey is number eight, and I just like something about the number, and I am fortunate that even Alia loves that number. Both of us are also contemplating getting an eight-number tattoo at some point in our lives. We're still talking about it, we haven't decided yet.”
Alia Bhatt's Embrace of '8'
Alia Bhatt, Ranbir's wife, has wholeheartedly embraced his affinity for the number 8. As already mentioned, she incorporated the number into various elements of her bridal attire. Her kaleere (bridal bangles) featured the number 8, symbolizing infinity and eternal love. Additionally, she wore a mangalsutra with a subtle '8' pendant, and her mehndi designs included the number as well. Alia also shared eight pictures from their wedding ceremony on Instagram, further highlighting the significance of the number in their relationship.

Governed by Saturn, the number signifies authority and discipline. Individuals connected with this number are believed to be focused, and capable of achieving great things in life. In numerology, the number 8 is considered a powerful and prosperous number because of its symbolism. It represents material wealth, success, and achievement. And people with a strong connection to this number are believed to have a natural ability to manifest financial opportunities and manage their finances effectively.
A Symbol of Infinity
The visual representation of the number 8, resembling the infinity symbol (∞), adds to its allure, too. This shape suggests endless possibilities, eternal life, and an unbroken cycle. For Ranbir, this visual appeal enhances the number's significance, aligning with his values of continuity and enduring connections.
