Since 2016, only two players have managed to score one century each in the Asia Cup
The Asia Cup 2025 follows the T20 format, as the next major ICC tournament is the Men’s T20 World Cup, scheduled to be played in 2026. Therefore, in line with the tournament’s format, our focus is also on stories and stats related to the T20 format in the tourney.
Speaking about statistics, do you know that the tournament has also had two centuries since 2016? Despite the fact that T20 has become a hyper-paced format with teams often touching 200 and above, individual scores in the Asia Cup have not been impressive.
In the following paragraphs, let us look at the top individual scores in the Asia Cup T20 format.

Babar Hayat, a name most cricket fans won’t recognise, was the first player to hit a century in the Asia Cup T20 format. Hailing from Hong Kong, he scored the century against Oman in 2016 when the first-ever T20 format was implemented in the Asia Cup. He scored 122 runs in 60 balls, which included nine fours and seven sixes, while maintaining a strike rate of 203.33.
After Babar Hayat, Virat Kohli was the only other player to manage a century in the T20 format of the Asia Cup. In fact, this century in question was the only century Virat Kohli ever scored in his entire T20I career despite playing 125 matches. His century came against Afghanistan in 2022 when he scored 122 not out in 61 balls. The century was his 71st career century, which came after a lean patch of 84 innings and 1,020 days. For the unversed souls, Virat Kohli is not featuring in this year’s Asia Cup, given that he retired from the T20 format.

Apart from Hayat and Kohli, no other player has touched the 90-run mark in an innings; forget a century. Gurbaz stands third with his 84 in 45 balls against Sri Lanka in 2022. His innings included four boundaries and six sixes.

Another Indian superstar who will not feature in this year’s Asia Cup, Rohit Sharma, retired from the T20 format alongside Virat Kohli. His 83 runs against Bangladesh, scored in 2016, stands as the fourth-highest individual score in an innings. Sharma had registered a strike rate of 150.90, including seven boundaries and three sixes.

A talented Bangladeshi player, Sabbir Rahman, who fell into obscurity, has not featured for the Bangladeshi side since 2022, if we recall correctly. He scored an 80 against Sri Lanka in Mirpur, 2016, which stands as the fifth-highest individual score in an innings in the tournament’s T20 format. In that game, his strike rate was 148.14, which included 10 boundaries and three sixes.
Among the top five individual high scores, it is quite shocking that only two players have managed one century each since 2016. We certainly hope to see a few more centuries in 2025 so that the Asia Cup cements itself as a fiery tournament in the world, just like other T20 tournaments where scores in the 270-280 range and centuries have become the new normal.
