This year, the Asia Cup is following the T20 format, and therefore, we have mentioned the players with the most runs in the Asia Cup T20 format
The Asia Cup 2025 is here, with several Asian cricketing giants going up against each other. Expectations are high for defending champion India, but several changes have been made to the squad in the T20 format compared to the team that won the title in 2023 in the ODI format.
Not only India, but also other teams have several changes in their squads; therefore, it is tough to determine who will make a statement with the bat or the ball. However, it is possible to examine the records of active players and their history in the Asia Cup. Therefore, in this article, we have listed the top active players with the maximum runs in the Asia Cup T20 format.
Virat Kohli leads the chart when it comes to scoring the maximum T20 runs in the Asia Cup. However, given that he retired from the format, the next in line is PAK’s Mohammad Rizwan. Rizwan is an active player but has been sidelined from the tournament. In the six matches he played, he scored 281 runs at an average of 56.20 and a strike rate of 117.57.

After Rizwan, Rohit Sharma is the third-highest T20 run scorer in the tourney, but given that he also retired from the format, he is not on this list. Among active players, Babar Hayat from Hong Kong stands second with 235 runs in five matches at an average of 47 and a strike rate of 146.87. For the unversed souls, he is one of the two players in the history of the Asia Cup to score a T20 century. The other was scored by Virat Kohli.

The third active player in the tournament with the most runs in the T20 format is Afghanistan’s Ibrahim Zadran. In five matches, Zadran scored 196 runs at an average of 65.33 and a strike rate of 104.25, including one half-century. Zadran has consistently been a crucial member of the Afghan team, carrying significant responsibility. The Afghans definitely wish to lift the trophy, having reached the Super-4 stage in the last edition. In short, they cannot be taken lightly.

Sri Lanka’s middle-order batsman Bhanuka Rajapaksa was part of Sri Lanka’s T20 World Cup squad in 2022. Although Sri Lanka has not announced their squad, we expect Rajapaksa to be in the Asia Cup squad. In six T20 matches played in the Asia Cup, Rajapaksa amassed 191 runs at an average of 47.75 and a strike rate of 149.21.

Another axed player, Sabbir Rahman, is active but has remained out of the Bangladesh team since 2022 due to a dip in form. The 33-year-old has not been added to the squad, but given that he is not retired from the format, he finds a place on our list. Rahman played five matches in the Asia Cup T20 format, scoring 181 runs at an average of 36.20 and a strike rate of 122.29.
