Adilabad is the administrative headquarters of the Adilabad district in the South Indian state of Telangana. The town is also known as the ‘White Gold City’, owing to its rich cultivation of cotton. There are several transportation options to get to the town of Adilabad. The nearest airport is Nagpur, located at a distance of around 165 km. If you are in Hyderabad, just take a bus or taxi, as it takes less than 5 hours to get there. You can also take a train for the same.
Best Time to Visit
It’s advised to avoid summer, as Adilabad sees extremely hot and humid weather during this time. Monsoon is not a good time either, and for obvious reasons. The best time to visit is during winter, from November to February.
History of Adilabad
Adilabad has a long history spanning over centuries. It was originally called Edlabad and was created in the year 1872. It has been ruled by several dynasties, such as the Kakatiyas, Mauryas, Satavahanas, Chalukyas, Qutub Shahis, and others. Adilabad gets its name from Muhammad Yusuf Adil Shah (the then-quondam ruler of Bijapur). It was declared an independent district in 1905 and later (in 2016) divided into four separate districts named Nirmal, Adilabad, Asifabad, and Mancherial.

Kuntala Waterfall
Kuntala Waterfall lies in the lap of the Sahyadri Mountain Ranges. It’s the highest waterfall in Telangana and attracts lots of tourists regularly. It’s named after Shakuntala, who met and fell in love with King Dushyanta here.
Kala Ashram
Established by Shri Ravindra Sharma, Kala Ashram is a renowned center for arts and science. It’s dedicated to spreading knowledge about philosophy, culture, traditional arts, science, and modern technology. The structure is packed with thousands of books based on rural societal issues.
Kawal Wildlife Sanctuary
Kawal Wildlife Sanctuary is located in Old Adilabad and is home to an impressive variety of flora & fauna. Established in 1965, the place once served as a hunting ground for the Nizams. It has tigers, bears, panthers, bison, cobras, crocodiles, pythons, owls, eagles, peacocks, and more.
Apart from these, you can also visit Pochera Waterfall, Kadam Dam, Mahatma Gandhi Park, etc.
