Woman in the US Receives Hundreds of Amazon Packages She Did Not Order; Ends up Distributing to All
A woman from Virginia discovered that she had a tonne of Amazon parcels that she had never bought. In the end, she shared the supplies with everyone in her neighbourhood.
Cindy Smith, a woman from Virginia, became overrun by multiple Amazon shipments that she had never received due to an odd "seller scam." The parcels began showing up at Smith's door in Prince William County, each one labelled to a certain "Lixiao Zhang."
A brief insight into the shipments
Smith said the shipments were confusing and arrived from different delivery providers, including FedEx and Amazon. The number of items finally grew to a point where delivery personnel had trouble getting to Smith's front door. In addition to several children's binoculars, the boxes included over 1,000 headlamps and 800 glue guns.
Statement from Smith
Smith chose to go around town with the extra products to give them away to anyone who showed interest in a bid to get rid of the leftover items.
Smith stated, "I would drive around with headlamps and glue guns in the car. I gave them to everybody I met." She continued, "All my neighbours got glue guns or headlamps. I gave them to dog shelters, to veterinary clinics. I went to Burger King one day, and I was like, 'I have a gift for you'.
Possible reasons behind the phenomenon
At first, Smith thought she had been a victim of a "brushing scam," a dishonest practice in which online retailers deliver products to arbitrary locations to publish false reviews. WUSA offered an alternative scenario, speculating that sellers trying to get rid of unsold goods from Amazon fulfilment centres may have targeted Smith.
