Twins Charlotte and Laura Tremble will be competing in their second Olympics.
The shimmering waters of the Paris Olympic are poised to witness a remarkable display of synchronized grace and unwavering determination. This summer, two sets of twins will take center stage, each with a story that transcends the pursuit of gold medals. Their journeys, marked by unwavering sisterhood, resilience in the face of adversity, and a shared passion for aquatic excellence, promise to inspire audiences worldwide.
The artistic swimming competition will be graced by the presence of Anastasiia and Daria Bilchenko, 23-year-old twins from Ukraine. These athletes are considered strong contenders for a medal at the Paris Olympics, having secured a bronze in the synchronized routine. However, their path to Paris has been far from ordinary.
The outbreak of conflict in Ukraine in February 2022 shattered their world. Forced to flee their hometown of Kharkiv, the Bilchenko sisters were forced to leave behind their sparkly costumes and familiar training facilities. Their journey to Paris has been a whirlwind. They initially relocated to Italy with the rest of the Ukrainian artistic swimming team, training for six months before making the difficult decision to return closer to home.

Training in Kyiv with limited resources became their new normal, and nights were often spent huddled in shelters. Kharkiv, their training base and a hub for Ukrainian artistic swimming, remained too dangerous. Despite the constant threat and disruptions, the Bilchenko sisters persevered. They returned to Kharkiv for short periods to train, even when the windows of their pool were shattered by multiple attacks. Not to forget, the lack of a generator to warm the water when the power grid failed.
Their unwavering commitment has paid off. The Bilchenko sisters have continued to compete internationally, even claiming a gold medal in the duet event at the World Aquatics World Cup held in France last year. Their story of resilience and dedication in the face of immense adversity has resonated with audiences worldwide, making them not just athletes, but symbols of hope for their conflict-torn nation.
The French artistic swimming team is also gearing up for a special Olympics, with the Paris Games marking the first time the nation will field a team in the sport in 24 years. Among the athletes to watch are twins Charlotte and Laura Tremble, who will be competing in their second Olympics. These 23-year-olds finished eighth in the duet event at the Tokyo Olympics and have announced their retirement from competition after Paris.
This time around, they will focus solely on the team event, partnering with Eve Planeix and Anastasia Bayandina. This strategic shift aims to maximize their chances of a medal on home soil. Bayandina, a former competitor for Moscow, brings valuable experience to the French team. She secured two World titles with her birth nation in 2017 before relocating to France in 2019. While the integration of a former competitor from a rival nation might raise eyebrows, Bayandina’s talent and experience are undeniable.

The Tremble sisters have been training diligently for the Games, recently using the second leg of the Artistic Swimming World Cup held in Paris as a test event. The enthusiastic crowd at the newly built Olympic Aquatics Center provided a significant boost to their morale.
“It was amazing to have so many people come to see us in the pool and it’s really motivating and gave us so much energy,” said Laura Tremble. “I hope a lot of little girls and boys will see us and the next generation are inspired by watching us.”
With a strong team dynamic, strategic planning, and the unwavering support of the home crowd, the French artistic swimming team, anchored by the Tremble twins, has a legitimate shot at medaling at the Paris Olympics.
