List of giant flowers which are rather infamous for their size
Flowers are the symbol of happiness, they are meant to be photographed as they adorn everything they are with. But are these enough to explain them? Certainly not.
Hailing from tropical rainforests to the deep down oceans, flowers have the power not only to mesmerise you with incredible colour and scent, some of them are effective enough to trick the insects and animals for getting necessary nutrients for survival. Therefore, they are of different kinds and some of them are so big that they are capable of holding a small child. Today, we’ll talk about these monster flowers present on earth. So, let’s look into these infamously famous ones –
Rafflesia, giant yet national flower
Native to the rainforests of Malaysia and Indonesia where it is considered as one of the three national flowers, the size of a single flower is more than ten feet. Truly a monster one, isn’t it? Though it is famous for its smell, it often smells like rotten meat, to attract the flies. When flies sit on it, it simply kills that insect and takes nutrients for survival. You may find this only in the pristine rainforests.
Corpse flower, having an inflorescence
Getting a ‘largest flower’ title is not that simple as this flower is also considered the largest in terms of height. This ten feet long flower is having inflorescence which means hundreds of buds can grow on a single stalk and here lies the difference between corpse and Rafflesia as Rafflesia is the largest in terms of a single flower. Also native to Sumatra and Indonesia this wild flower shows the same characteristics as Rafflesia. Therefore they both are eligible to win the crown of the largest flower.
Neptune Grass, under the Mediterranean bed
Neptune Grass or Posidonia is obtainable in the Mediterranean Sea and off to the coast of Australia. It grows in colonies and produces fruits and reproduces by means of seeds. One such colony was discovered in 2006 and believed to be thousands of years old. One such speciality is that it stored a huge amount of carbon dioxide. But it’s currently threatened as their colony is rapidly reduced.
So, that’s all for the biggest monsters and such more examples are there to be explored.
