"... the fact that nobody really forced me or pushed me (into acting). My parents were happy with whatever I wanted to do." - Kareena Kapoor Khan
Every time we think about Kareena Kapoor Khan, the phrase "aging like fine wine" comes to our minds almost instantly. The actress turns 44 today. And with each passing year, she is becoming only more graceful, more charming, and more confident. What truly sets her apart is she knows how to reinvent herself with time, experiment with new things, and stay relevant. Her latest venture, 'The Buckingham Murders', proves just that!
Born on September 21, 1980, Kareena started her career with the usual superficial characters (as film historian Gyan Prakash described, "Daddy's little girl, all bubble and no fizz") in mainstream Hindi films. But she knew what she was capable of, and hence, soon shifted her focus to author-backed roles in films like 'Chameli', 'Dev', 'Omkara', 'Jab We Met', 'Kurbaan', and '3 Idiots' among others. Her remarkable versatility, coupled with the phenomenal spontaneity in her performances, captivated the world and how! Today, she stands tall as one of the most sought-after actresses in the industry!
"She (Kareena) has no craft, grammar, or process attached to her acting [...] It is a great sense of cinema that can keep her going." - Karan Johar

However, what's surprising is this celebrated actress, despite coming from a renowned film family, never initially wanted to step into showbiz. Today, on her 44th birthday, let's learn more about that in this article.
Kareena Kapoor Khan Actually Wanted To Be A Criminal Lawyer
Kareena's elder sister, Karisma Kapoor, became the first woman from the Kapoor family to enter the film industry. And although Kareena grew up on film sets, she aspired to become something else - a criminal lawyer. In fact, she enrolled at the Government Law College, Mumbai, where she studied for some time.
Speaking about this, the actress shared in one of her interviews, "I did try to sign myself up at the government law college. I did go for 5 days. Most of my family laughed at that though. They said the 'Kapoor family doesn't have brains. Later, when I saw the size of the books, I was like, I don’t think this is for me. So, I did keep the option open of wanting to be a lawyer. I don’t know what I was thinking! But I can’t even imagine myself not being in front of the camera."
Kareena Kapoor was a good student in her high school (received good grades in all her subjects except mathematics). After studying commerce for two years at Mithibai College, she registered for a three-month summer course in microcomputers at Harvard Summer School in the United States.
The actress spoke about the same on the show 'Rendezvous with Simi Garewal', "Honestly, Harvard was just like to have a good time and have a blast. It was the biggest thing ever. Everyone was reacting that my niece, my this, my that has gone to Harvard. Kapoor girl, no brains, has gone to Harvard. They all were overreacting. No one could believe that I had gone to Harvard. They all celebrated."
It was while studying at the Government Law College, Mumbai, that Kareena finally decided to pursue an acting career. She dropped out of college and enrolled at an acting institute in Mumbai. There, she was mentored by Kishore Namit Kapoor.
The actress was supposed to make her debut with Rakesh Roshan's 'Kaho Naa... Pyaar Hai' (2000), opposite Hrithik Roshan. However, she opted out of the production (reportedly because of some creative differences with the director) after several days of shooting, and debuted later that year with J. P. Dutta's 'Refugee', opposite Abhishek Bachchan. The rest, as they say, is history!
