While growing up, Bipasha Basu had no plans of stepping into showbiz.
Bipasha Basu made her Bollywood debut in 2001 with 'Ajnabee'. And in no time, she emerged as the undisputed queen of thriller and horror films. With her magnetic presence in all those films - from 'Raaz' to 'Race' to 'Aatma' to 'Alone' and more - she also became a heartthrob of millions, making all the men go weak in the knees. Moreover, her comic timing was also evident in films like 'No Entry', 'Phir Hera Pheri', and 'All the Best: Fun Begins' among others.
The actress has been on a hiatus since the late 2010s, with only occasional appearances on the screen. However, without an iota of doubt, she continues to reign supreme in our hearts.

Today, as she turns one year wiser, let's learn an interesting fact about her that many are unaware of.
Yes, you read it right. While growing up in Kolkata, Bipasha was quite a good student and aspired to become a doctor. She even studied science in her higher secondary education, however, later changed her mind and switched to commerce.
Speaking about the same, the actress once shared in an interview, "I actually wanted to be a doctor. But doing all those horrid rat dissections made me faint. I studied science till the 12th standard and later took up commerce. I was planning to do chartered accountancy, but fate had something else in store for me."
As already mentioned, Bipasha initially had no aspirations of stepping into showbiz. It was Mehr Jesia Rampal (who represented India at Miss Universe 1986) who suggested she take up modeling. In 1996, she participated in and eventually won the Godrej Cinthol Supermodel Contest, and went on to represent India at the Ford Models Supermodel of the World contest in Miami. Then, one work came after another, paving her way to emerge as a supermodel.

While participating in the Godrej Cinthol Supermodel Contest, Bipasha was spotted by Vinod Khanna, who wanted to cast her alongside his son Akshaye Khanna in the film 'Himalay Putra'. She declined the role (as she thought she was too young for it), and chose to star opposite Abhishek Bachchan in J. P. Dutta's 'Aakhari Mughal'. However, the film was canceled.
After several setbacks, Bipasha finally made her debut in a negative role opposite Akshay Kumar in Abbas–Mustan's action thriller 'Ajnabee'. The film was a moderate commercial success at the box office, however, turned out to be a jackpot for Bipasha. It earned her the Filmfare Award for Best Female Debut along with other accolades.
Well, as they say, there has been no looking back for her ever since.
After 'Aakhari Mughal' was canceled, J. P. Dutta started working on 'Refugee', which marked the debut of both Abhishek Bachchan and Kareena Kapoor. Bipasha was offered a supporting role here, which she declined.
Her breakthrough came with Vikram Bhatt's supernatural horror thriller 'Raaz' in 2002, which was the first installment of the 'Raaz' film series. It emerged as the third highest-grossing Hindi film of the year and earned her a nomination for the Filmfare Award for Best Actress.

Aishwarya Rai Bachchan was the first choice for the role of Nishigandha Dasgupta in 'Corporate'. As she opted out of the project midway, it went to Bipasha Basu.
