The actor initially had no plans of entering showbiz. But - you know - destiny and all!
Aditya Roy Kapur has all that it takes to be a top "Bollywood hero" - looks, screen presence, and obviously, acting chops. But still, he is far from where he deserves to be, which, perhaps, owes to his own bad choices. While he became a bona fide star after the mammoth success of 'Aashiqui 2', most of his subsequent releases failed to miss the mark, restricting his rise to superstardom. However, now he seems to be back on the track - thanks to 'The Night Manager' - and is all set to go from strength to strength over the coming years.
Well, look at Aditya Roy Kapur, and you can tell he is destined to be in showbiz. But quite surprisingly, he never aspired to enter this industry in the first place, and never even watched too many films while growing up. In fact, he had quite a different career plan.

The actor turns 39 today. On this occasion, we share an interesting fact about him that you didn't know.
Yes, you read it absolutely right! During his school days, Kapur was very enthusiastic about cricket and spent lots of time on it. Hence, at one point, he aspired to become a professional cricketer.
In a candid chat with Kareena Kapoor on the show, What Women Want, the actor shared, "I didn’t have any plans to get into acting. Like half the country, I wanted to be a cricketer, but that didn’t go as planned."
Notably, in an interview with Curly Tales, Kapur shared that he used to take regular cricket coaching but discontinued that after the sixth standard.
Before becoming an actor, Kapur worked as a video jockey (on the music channel Channel V India) for quite some time. He starred in a show titled 'Pakao' and then hosted the popular show, India's Hottest, with VJ Bruna Abdullah till 2008. Although he wasn't passionate about it, he earned enormous popularity through it and developed the confidence to pursue an acting career.
In his words, "... that was a fun job, I was in college and I did that for four, four-and-a-half years. In a way, it was like my acting school because I was in front of the camera every day just making a fool of myself, being silly in front of the camera. Somehow then, acting just happened because I was semi-famous. I used to get calls for auditions that I wouldn’t want to go for; some I would go out of guilt because I didn’t really grow up wanting to be an actor.”
Aditya Roy Kapur made his debut as an actor in 2009 with a supporting role in the musical drama 'London Dreams', which starred Salman Khan, Ajay Devgn, and Asin as the lead. He continued appearing in supporting roles in films like 'Action Replayy', 'Guzaarish', and 'Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani'. However, he made his debut as a lead actor in 'Aashiqui 2', and emerged as an overnight sensation.
Speaking about his foray into acting, Kapur later shared in an interview, "... then I got this, my first film which I fell in love with. It was engaging in a different way. As a VJ you are a version of yourself… But this was giving me a chance to do more varied things and apply my mind in a different way. So my first film was a blast. London Dreams was my first film, with Salman (Khan) bhai and Ajay (Devgn) sir. It was crazy.”
Happy Birthday, Mr. Night Manager. Best Wishes For All Your Upcoming Films!
