4 Australian streaks brought to an end by India over the years

Often when Australia have been on a roll, they have found tough competitors in Team India who have broken their winning streaks.

16 consecutive test wins - 2001 in Kolkata

Australia, under Steve Waugh, were on a roll when the team toured India in 2001. After having won the first test match of the three-match series, Australia reached the Eden Gardens at Kolkata with a winning streak of 16 test matches.

After gaining a big lead in the first innings, Rahul Dravid and VVS Laxman shocked the visitors in their second innings. Aided by Harbhajan Singh's brilliant bowling, India not only went on to win the test match but also won the last match of the series to emerge victorious by 2-1.

25 consecutive home tests without defeat - 2008 in Perth

India registered a historic victory at the WACA in Perth in 2008. This was the same series when all the controversy surrounding the Monkeygate erupted between Harbhajan Singh and Andrew Symonds. Not only did India break Australia's 25-match unbeaten streak in home tests, the team also became the first Asian side to win at the WACA.

19 consecutive ODI wins at home - 2016 in Sydney

On the Australia tour of India in 2016, the Indian team had quite a lot of match winners like Rohit Sharma, Shikhar Dhawan, Virat Kohli, MS Dhoni, Ravindra Jadeja, Bhuvneshwar Kumar and Ravichandran Ashwin. Despite piling on over 300 runs regularly, the team could not win in the first four matches of the five-match series.

They finally broke the streak in the last match at the Sydney Cricket Ground after they chased down Australia's 331-run target with two balls to spare courtesy of a brilliant partnership between Manish Pandey and MS Dhoni. As a result, the team broke Australia's unbeaten streak of 19 ODIs at home.

32 years unbeaten streak at Gabba b/w 1989 & 2020

There was much hype surrounding the Gabbatoir fortress when India reached Brisbane for the fourth and last test match of their tour in 2020-21. India, with effectively a second string team, managed to breach the fortress and win the test match by 3 wickets to not only take the test series 2-1 but inflict Australia's first defeat at the Gabba in 32 years. This was also the first time that India registered a test victory at the venue.
