Kohli has already landed in Chennai from London, preparing for the first Test against Bangladesh
India is set to host Bangladesh for a two-match Test series, with the first one set to be played on September 19. All the players, including Kohli, who was in London, have landed in Chennai to prepare for the series. Under the new regime of Gautam Gambhir as coach, eyes will be on all the Indian players, but fans will be more eager to follow Kohli's campaign as he is poised to break another legendary player's record.
When it comes to international runs across formats, Virat Kohli is presently ranked fourth among the all-time cricketers' list. As of now, Kohli has 26,942 runs from 591 innings. The first position is held by Sachin Tendulkar, whereas the second and third spots are held by Kumar Sangakkara and Ricky Ponting.

In terms of total international runs, Kohli is obviously far from him, and that is quite obvious because Tendulkar played 782 innings, 191 more than him. However, Kohli is still poised to break Tendulkar's record.
The Master Blaster took 623 innings (226 Test innings, 396 ODI innings, and one T20I innings) to reach the 27,000 international runs milestone. However, Kohli is at 26,942 international runs, having played only 591 innings. In the India vs. Bangladesh series, Kohli only needs 58 runs to become the fastest cricketer to reach 27,000 international runs, surpassing the record of Tendulkar.
To get 58 runs, he has eight innings in his hand, which should be a walk in the park for a monstrous player like Virat Kohli. After all, what is an average of 7.25 runs if we divide 58 runs by eight innings?

This is not the first time Kohli is on the verge of breaking a Tendulkar record.
In Test cricket, Virat Kohli has 8848 runs in 113 matches, whereas in ODI cricket, he has scored 13,906 runs in 295 matches. Winning the T20I World Cup in 2024, Kohli retired with 4,188 in 145 international matches. In First Class and List A, Kohli has 11,097 and 15,348 runs, respectively.
Lastly, Kohli is also in contention to break a Sir Don Bradman record. Having scored six double centuries, Kohli could equal or break Bradman’s record if he scored a double century or two.
