Unlock Your Academic Adventure: Interview Tips & Appeal Process after Visa Refusal as Australian Govt Enhances Student Visa Prerequisites

The Anthony Albanese-led government has introduced these new rules to prevent back-door entry to Australia for work and permanent residency.

Since the implementation of new rule, nearly 48% drop was seen in visa approval for Indian students than the last year. The most recent Australian Home Affairs Department data showed “Applications for student visas from people already in Australia rose to 34,388 in March, from 25,886 in March 2023.” However, only 6834 visas were approved during the month, compared to 18,604 in March, 2023.

Apart from Indian students, the visa refusal rate is high for students from Nepal (53%) and Pakistan (53%) over the same period. “We are significantly reducing migration levels - we are in the middle of the biggest drop in migration numbers in Australia's history, outside of war or pandemic,” Home Affairs Minister Clare O'Neil stated.

Seek Professional Guidance: Utilise your university’s resources for successful reapplication. There are professionals who can support. You can start with the Office of the Migration Agents Registrations Authority.

Appeal or Reapplication: If you have genuine documents and other prerequisites, you can appeal the decision by spending a fee of $3,374. If a student is not coming from financially strong family, the fee can be reduced by 50%. Otherwise, you can reapply with all the important documents. Meanwhile, there is no limit of reapplication.
