Potatoes have got quite a bad reputation in the market - often skipped over due to their high carbohydrate content. Of course, consuming too much potatoes does lead to weight gain. But not many know that these root vegetables are also packed with nature's goodness - rich in fiber, protein, vitamin C, vitamin B6, and potassium among others. Hence, regular consumption (obviously in moderation) may help control blood sugar, enhance digestive health, reduce inflammation, and improve skin health. And undoubtedly the best of all - they are incredibly tasty and versatile, and can never let you down with recipes.

For today's sabzi of the day, we picked the amazing potatoes, the superstar of our kitchens. In this article, we will explore some of their recipes (both common and unique) that you simply cannot resist.

First, Some Classic & Comfort Potato Recipes To Enjoy Everyday

Potatoes are our ultimate comfort food and can be enjoyed in countless different ways every day. Here, let's have a look at some of the classic recipes.

Mashed Potatoes: Of course, the list has to begin with the traditional mashed potatoes - which is not only a crowd-pleaser but also incredibly easy to prepare. First, peel and cut a few potatoes into chunks, and then boil them for some time. Once boiled completely, drain the water and mash the potatoes in a pot. Add some salt, turmeric powder, pepper, mustard oil, and parsley (optional).

Thanks to its creaminess and fluffy texture, mashed potatoes go well with everything from rice to roti and more.

Baked Potatoes: Whether served as a snack or a side dish, baked potatoes are always a hit among foodies. First, preheat the oven to 425 degrees F, and place a middle oven rack over it. Meanwhile, rub some clean potatoes with olive oil and salt, and poke a few holes in each of them with a fork. Now, place them on the oven rack and bake for about 60 minutes. Once done, remove them from the oven and serve hot!

Trust me, everyone is going to love it!

Potato Fries: French fries have become so popular recently - but well, they cannot come even close to their counterpart in India, the classic potato fries. And these can be consumed both as a standalone snack and as a companion with dal rice. And the best thing is there are numerous variations, offering something for everyone.

For the classic one, all you need to do is just peel some potatoes and cut them into thin strips, soak them in cold water for some time, and then fry them in hot oil. For additional flavors, you can toss it with some chili powder, pepper, and cumin powder. Also, if you are craving something heavy, top it with cheese and melted mozzarella.

Besides these, some other options may be aloo tikki, aloo gobi, aloo baingan, aloo parantha, and aloo methi.

Now, Beyond The Classic Ones - Some Unique Potato Recipes

Hasselback Potatoes: Originated in Stockholm, Sweden, Hasselback potatoes are visually stunning, and boast multiple textures that your taste buds will absolutely love. The outer layer is incredibly crispy, while the inside is soft and creamy. They can be served as a main course, a side dish, or a canapé.

To prepare Hasselback potatoes (veg), take some medium-sized potatoes and cut parallel slits into each of them (stop just before you reach the bottom). Now, brush all with olive oil, and sprinkle with salt and black pepper. Bake them for 30 minutes at 425°F, and brush the potatoes frequently with oil. Stop when these turn crispy on the edges, add some cheese, and serve hot.

German Potato Salad: Among all the different varieties of potato salads, German Potato Salad is arguably the most unique, and not to mention tastiest. And it's tossed in a vinegar-based dressing instead of mayonnaise, making it a healthier option for you. Thanks to its warm and tangy flavor, the preparation will surely leave your taste buds in awe.

For a German Potato Salad (veg), first, you need to boil a few medium-sized potatoes, and then let them cool. On the other hand, heat some olive oil over medium heat on a pan; add salt, black pepper, and chopped onions, and stir for a few minutes. Now, add apple cider vinegar, mustard sauce, and sugar, and stir again for a minute. Once done, pour it all over the boiled potatoes, combine, and garnish with fresh parsley. And voila!

Besides these, you can also try Fondant Potatoes, Potato Brownies, Scalloped Potatoes, etc.
