As Starc celebrates his birthday, we take a look at his love story, which blossomed when he was only a kid of nine years
January 30 marks the birthday of Mitchell Starc, one of the finest pacers to grace the game of cricket across all formats. His exploits are well known, whether on the domestic stage or in international matches.
To put things into perspective, Starc has 376 wickets in 94 Test matches, followed by 244 wickets in 127 ODIs and 79 wickets in T20Is. His first-class statistics are impressive, comprising 559 wickets, whereas in overall domestic T20 matches across various leagues like the Indian Premier League (IPL), Big Bash League (BBL), etc.
In short, Starc's achievements are well known to the world and have been celebrated time and again. However, on his birthday, we wish to celebrate his love life, given it started at the mere age of nine when he was a kid. Just like his determination in cricket led to success, his determination off the field in his relationship also gave birth to a beautiful love story straight out of a Bollywood script.
In primary school, Mitchell Starc and Alyssa Healy were competing against each other in Sydney's Northern District Junior Cricket Association. However, a year later, both found themselves on the same team, coached by Mitchell's father.
The competition went right out of the window, and a friendship bloomed between the two. Mitchell Starc admitted that he had developed a liking towards the blonde wicketkeeper, but they finally got together at around the age of 18 in Brisbane.
Healy once revealed, "I was up there playing hockey for NSW, and Mitch was training with the National Performance Squad. We had a horrific tournament, went out for some drinks, so did some of the cricket boys, and we hung out. And then we were home, and all of a sudden we were hanging out more."
Starc also explained that the two had just fallen into a relationship and that they didn't need to say anything to each other. They felt it was right, but Mitchell Starc once asked, "Are we dating now?" The pair got engaged in 2015 and tied the knot in 2016.
It is often found that couples belonging to the same field often find themselves competing against each other. Not to forget, if one finds more success, the other develops an inferior complex, leading to a fallout.
However, not Starc and Healy. In terms of international trophies, Starc has won the ICC World Cup and the ICC Test Championship, whereas Healy has won the ICC T20 Women's World Cup and two ICC Women's World Cups. Despite the differences in the number of trophies, the power couple has always supported each other in every aspect of life.
Both the players are parents to two cute pets and live a content life that includes tonnes of cricket.
