NASA Says Three Massive Asteroids Are Coming Towards Us On September 1: How Likely Will They Hit Earth?

As per NASA’s Jet Propulsion Laboratory (JPL), these asteroids are coming towards us at a frightening speed.

It is believed that in the coming days, three sizable asteroids are expected to pass by Earth at a remarkable speed as the planet gears up to witness an interesting cosmic event. As per NASA’s Jet Propulsion Laboratory (JPL), these asteroids will make their closest approaches on Sunday, September 1. However, there is nothing to worry as these massive space rocks do not pose any threat to our planet, according to experts.

Details Of The Three Asteroids

The first of these three space rocks is the asteroid 2024 QM1, which measures approximately 63 feet in diameter – which is about the size of a typical house. It will come close to our planet on 1 September, at a distance of about 1,160,000 miles from Earth. In astronomical terms, the distance is close but as per NASA, there is no immediate alarming situation.

Following it is asteroid 2024 QK1, which is a little larger at around 96 feet across. This asteroid will pass by Earth on September 1 as well, but from a safe distance of 1,980,000 miles. It is also not dangerous to our planet. Last but not the least, the asteroid 2021 JT – roughly the size of a small jet at 38 feet wide – is all set to pass within 3,890,000 miles of Earth. Talking about the third celestial body, NASA and other space agencies have confirmed that there is no risk to Earth.

Meanwhile, earlier this month, NASA (National Aeronautics and Space Administration) had warned that a giant building-sized asteroid named '2024 OC' will approach Earth August 4. Measuring around 410 feet (125 metres) in size, it was reportedly moving at a speed of 35,996 km per hour. Interestingly, the giant rock was from the Appollo group - a class of near-Earth objects (NEOs), which are known to have an orbital semi-major axis greater than that of the Earth. In fact, on August 3, a 110-foot airplane-sized asteroid ‘OJ2’ passed the Earth on August 3 at a distance of approximately 4,450,000 miles. On August 1, two large asteroids ‘2024 OE’ and ‘2024 OO’ – around 190 feet and 88 feet in diameter – passed the Earth.

Nonetheless, while these three asteroids make a journey through space, NASA and other agencies certainly keep an eye. These events only highlight the dynamic nature of our solar system, but the only good news is that our Earth remains safe.
