The Budget Session of Parliament reconvenes today, with several significant bills on the agenda.
One key proposal is a Bill to amend the 1995 Waqf Act, which seeks to improve accountability and transparency in Waqf boards while ensuring the inclusion of women. This initiative addresses calls for reform from within the Muslim community.
Congress MP Manickam Tagore has submitted an adjournment motion notice in the Lok Sabha, advocating for a revision of the income criteria for the OBC creamy layer to better align with contemporary socio-economic realities. He emphasises the need for transparent policies to address inequalities and ensure effective support. Alternatively, Tagore suggests abolishing the creamy layer status for OBCs, arguing that it has restricted youth access to opportunities. Additionally, he calls for enhanced support for OBC youth through improved educational and vocational training programmes.
