The legendary singer turns 66 today. On this occasion, we share an interesting fact about him that you probably didn't know.
Not many know that Ali is the son of the late Bollywood actor Mehmood (best known for his comic roles in hundreds of Hindi films).
Mehmood wanted his son to become an actor just like him. However, Ali had no interest in acting and remained occupied with music. In his words, "My father wanted me to act, but the times had changed drastically. I enjoyed being among musicians way more; it has always been fun with them.”
Mehmood, one of Hindi cinema’s greatest comedians, was renowned for his unique comedy style and was often paid more than the lead actors during his peak. With a career spanning over 300 films across four decades, Mehmood excelled as an actor, singer, director, and producer. pic.twitter.com/MRXsRhHLAU

To evade his father’s wish, Ali got into carpet cleaning business. He used to clean carpets, and also sell them in markets. However, he was not really good at it and hence was running at a loss. As he later shared, "Carpets used to bore me because I did not know how to sell. I knew how to buy but did not know how to sell. So, whatever I bought, I sold for a loss. Business was not for me."
Ali calls himself a 'wanderer' as he has done numerous odd jobs all his life. Besides being a successful singer, he has also tried his hands at acting, appearing in several films and television shows over the years. Besides, he has also bred horses and worked on an oil rig off the coast of Pondicherry in South India.
Currently, apart from performing at live shows, Ali is into organic farming as well. He calls himself a "full-time farmer", and manages his own farm, located near Bengaluru. Also, he often advocates for the farmers' well-being.
Contrary to popular belief, Ali has not received any formal training in music. He discovered his passion for music at the age of 13, after receiving a guitar as a birthday present from his second mother.
He once claimed to have spotted a UFO (Unidentified Flying Object) near his Bengaluru farmhouse.
Ever since his childhood, Ali has been remarkably passionate about boxing as well. In fact, he was a part of his school's boxing team.
Happy Birthday, Mr. Ali. Best Wishes For All Your Upcoming Endeavors!
