IND vs ENG ODI: When India Went Big- Three Times They Hammered 350+ Against England!

From Yuvraj’s blistering ton to Kohli’s masterful chase—reliving three electrifying ODIs where India piled on 350+ runs against England and left them gasping for answers

Following a convincing 4-1 victory in the T20I series, India will host England for a three-match ODI series commencing on 6 February. This series holds significant importance as both teams will consider it a crucial dress rehearsal for the upcoming ICC Champions Trophy 2025.

The stats present an intriguing narrative: India and England have contested 107 ODIs, with India claiming 58 wins and England securing 44. Three matches ended without a result, while two concluded in a tie.

Over the years, India has been a formidable opponent for England's bowlers, consistently racking up massive totals and turning contests into batting spectacles. Here are three instances when India scored 350 or more runs against England, leaving their bowlers gasping for air.

Rajkot, 2008: Yuvraj paints England red

Nothing quite prepares a visiting side for India's batting juggernaut, as Kevin Pietersen's England learned the hard way in the 2008 series. England had no clue what awaited them when they opted to bowl first in the opening ODI. Indian openers Virender Sehwag and Gautam Gambhir set the tone with a blazing 127-run partnership, but it was Yuvraj Singh who stole the show with his blistering innings.

Yuvraj, suffering from a stiff back, believed running was unnecessary and let his bat do the talking. In an innings marked by audacious stroke play, he belted an unbeaten 138 off just 78 balls, setting the record for the quickest ODI century against England at the time. India posted 387/5, their highest home ODI total at that moment.

The chase? England never had a chance. Zaheer Khan's three-wicket burst demolished their top order as they crumbled for 229, earning India a crushing 158-run win.

Cuttack, 2017: The Yuvraj-Dhoni masterclass

If Yuvraj's 2008 knock was all about brutality, his performance in the second ODI of the 2017 series was a lesson in redemption. Walking in at 25/3 with India in danger, Yuvraj rolled back the years with a magnificent 150 from 127 balls. And if England thought the storm was over, MS Dhoni added to their distress with a well-paced 134.

Together, the two veterans produced a 256-run stand, propelling India to 381/6. However, England's batters, particularly Eoin Morgan (102 off 81), showed remarkable resilience. Despite the daunting required rate, Morgan launched a counterattack against the Indian pacers, coming close to pulling off a miraculous win. But Jasprit Bumrah's composure in the last over ensured India's victory by just 15 runs in a nail-biting 747-run thriller.

Pune, 2017: The Kohli-Jadhav show

England's bowlers may have felt a sense of déjà vu when they posted an imposing total of 350/7 in the first One Day International of the 2017 series, only to witness India chase it down with 11 balls to spare.

The chase began disastrously, with India at 63/4 and England in the lead. Then came Virat Kohli and Kedar Jadhav. Kohli, in his element, delivered another brilliant performance (122 off 105), but it was Jadhav's remarkable 120 off just 76 balls that changed the course of the game.

With tremendous strokes, intelligent running, and a fearless attitude, the duo crafted a match-winning 200-run partnership. Despite England's best efforts, India continued to progress. Hardik Pandya finished with a composed 40* to secure a three-wicket victory in a contest with over 700 runs.
