Confess your love in style - take notes from Bollywood!
Can you sense "love in the air"? Well, we're now into Valentine's Week, and wherever you look, love seems to be taking over everything else. As Cecilia Galante, the celebrated American author, put it, "There's nothing greater than love - it's stronger than any evil, any darkness." And you know, the first stage of love is a proposal - when you let your heart speak out, marking the beginning of an extraordinary journey of togetherness. And that's what Propose Day is for - a day dedicated to transforming emotions into commitment.
Now, if you are looking for some inspiration for the same, Bollywood has got you covered yet again. There are countless proposal scenes in Hindi cinema - including some magical ones - which set our standards for how love should be expressed. And those give us butterflies in the stomach every time we watch them.
Today, as we celebrate Propose Day, let's revisit some of the most beautiful proposal scenes of Hindi cinema.
Discussing love without 'Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge' is simply not possible. Three decades have passed, and the film continues to make us fall in love with the idea of love. Here, Raj (Shah Rukh Khan) expresses his feelings to Simran (Kajol) in the midst of a picturesque mustard field, with soothing music and all in the background. And you know, it's not just about expressing one's emotions - the scene also conveys that love is all about effort, commitment, and trust in each other. When Raj asks, "Mujhpe bharosa hai?" (Do you have trust in me?), Simran replies, "khudse zyada" (More than myself). Thus, it shows the sheer power that love has - which can outperform every obstacle.
The proposal scene in 'Jannat' (2008) is a classic that we can never get over. I repeat, NEVER. It takes place in the middle of a bustling road, where Arjun (Emran Hashmi) kneels and proposes to Zoya (Sonal Chauhan), while a melodious track is playing in the background.
The emotional gravity in the entire sequence is insane, which still gives us butterflies in the stomach. As Arjun walks towards Zoya, we feel it's just their world and we all are living in it. And when he kneels in the middle of the road, it's as if he is surrendering himself to his beloved - which is the basis of any relationship. This is raw, unfiltered, and unforgettable.

However, if you want to recreate the scene today, just make sure it's not a busy road.
Jai (Imran Khan) fights with Sushant, rides a horse through Mumbai streets, and stops Aditi (Genelia D'Souza) at the airport by singing the song "Tera Mujhse Hai Pehle Koi Naata Koi...". Well, it's 'Bollywoodism' (I'm not sure if it's a word, but you get the point) at its best - and what makes it so unique is that it's executed realistically.
The scene is the climax of the film, which turns Jai and Aditi's friendship into love. And it proves that even the most opposites can fall in love - and how! Aditi was leaving India as she had nothing to stay here for - and she finally decides to not leave as Jai proposes to her. Thus, love becomes a reason to stay back. Here, the two realize that it's worth holding on to.

There are so many iconic proposal scenes in Bollywood that it's impossible to include all of them in one article. However, besides the above-mentioned ones, it also includes 'Wake Up Sid', 'Dil Chahta Hai', 'Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani', 'Tanu Weds Manu', and 'My Name Is Khan' among others.
