Deadpool & Wolverine has broken several R-Rated records, and has become the eight-biggest box office in history.
Marvel‘s Deadpool & Wolverine, featuring Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman, has become the summer blockbuster film. The film revolves around the two MCU‘s most popular characters, and collected $205 million USD at the opening weekend box office. It is the eighth-best debut of all time at the box office, along with being the biggest R-rated debut ever.
Nonetheless, Deadpool & Wolverine have caught the hearts of Marvel fans and beyond. It is part of the so-called Phase 5, and the 34th film in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. While the film is now running in theaters, you might want to recap what really happened in the Phase 5 of MCU before you watch Deadpool & Wolverine. So here’s a list of films that will help you do so:
In the first Deadpool film, a background into Wade Wilson (a.k.a. Deadpool) is given, and he is shown as a loudmouthed mercenary. In Deadpool 2, there’s an introduction of the time-travel element, which remains vital in Deadpool & Wolverine. Also, new characters are introduced that also stick around in the latest film.
Coming to Wolverine, a.k.a. James “Logan” Howlett, he is a major member of the X-Men. Logan is also referenced throughout Deadpool & Wolverine, and as an ultrapowerful mutant whose regenerating powers mean death. The standalone film by director James Mangold focuses on the character and has some memorable fight sequences.
Deadpool & Wolverine revolves around the TVA, the Time Variance Authority. It is sort of a bureaucracy that exists to preserve the “sacred timeline”. However, if you wish to know more details of the organization and time-travel mechanics, watch the Disney+ series Loki, which follows the trickster (Tom Hiddleston) working with the TVA to help fix the sacred timeline.
In Deadpool & Wolverine, Logan is haunted by his past with the X-Men. But if you wish to know more, watch both X-Men and X2. Both of them offer an introduction to a group of mutants, who are cast out by society because they have superpowers. Wolverine is a member of that group. Both the films have fabulous action sequences, and are part of a trilogy. If you wish to know more about Logan’s history, you could also watch X-Men Origins: Wolverine (2009).
If you have watched Deadpool & Wolverine, and are curious about the multiverse , watch Doctor Strange. With a well-cast (Benedict Cumberbatch, Rachel McAdams and Tilda Swinton), it has some amazing visual effects to know all about the multiverse.
