Cars are classified into different types depending on the shape of their cabin On the streets, we come across cars that are different in shapes. Some of them are meant for daily commuting whereas some of them are made for hitting the off-road trails. For the unversed souls who are new into the world of cars, we have chalked up an overview of the different car body styles. Hatchbacks- Hatchbacks are usually small with four doors and are meant for four passengers. On the rear, a hatchback car does not feature an extended trunk for storing a high quantity of luggage. Therefore, there is a rear flip-up door in hatchback cars. Some of the hatchback cars in India are the Maruti Suzuki Alto 800, Renault Kwid and the Hyundai Grand i10. However, certain hatchback cars in the world are equipped with two doors only. For example, the Volkswagen Polo GTI and the MINI Cooper S 3 Door are hatchbacks with two doors. Sedan- Sedans are slightly longer than hatchbacks and are found with an extended trunk space. Usually, sedans are divided into three boxes: the first box for the engine, the second box for the passengers and the third box for the trunk space. In the UK, sedans are addressed as saloons. Some of the finest sedans one can buy in India are the Hyundai Elantra, Maruti Suzuki Swift Dzire and the BMW M2. SUV- Stands for Sport Utility Vehicle, SUVs are large with high ground clearance and taller roof. On the back, SUVs have space to carry a whole range of luggage. Most of the SUVs are equipped with off-road tyres and other accessories that enable them to hit off-road trails. Some examples of SUVs in India are the Mahindra Scorpio, Toyota Fortuner, Mahindra Thar and the Jeep Compass. Convertible- You must have come across convertible cars in movies such as Fast & Furious and the Hangover Part One. Basically, convertible cars are cars without hard roofs. In place of hard roofs, they are equipped with foldable soft tops or retractable tops. Most convertible cars feature two doors. However, some models also feature four doors. For example, the Mazda MX-5 Miata RF, Porsche 911 Targa, Corvette, Mercedes-AMG SLC 43, Audi A3 Cabriolet, and the Ferrari California T are some great convertible cars.
