Car Brands: Who Owns Who?

Some of the famous brands in the world, such as Lamborghini and Porsche, have a parent company There are thousands of automobile companies around the world. Volkswagen Group- The German group is one of the biggest automobile groups in the world and therefore, Volkswagen is the parent company of several other car brands. Famous car brands such as Audi, Bentley, Bugatti, Lamborghini, Porsche, Seat, Skoda, and Volkswagen are all owned by the Volkswagen Group. Not to forget, the Volkswagen Group also owns the Italian motorcycle brand Ducati. Fiat Chrysler Automobiles- Parent company Fiat Chrysler Automobiles owns brands such as Alfa Romeo, Dodge, Lancia, Maserati, Chrysler, Fiat, Jeep, and Ram. Daimler AG- Another Germany-based company, Daimler AG own not merely car brands but also several truck brands. Mercedes-Benz, Smart and AMG are some car firms whereas Daimler trucks, Bharat-Benz, FUSO, Freightliner and Western Star are some truck manufacturing companies. Renault-Nissan-Mitsubishi Alliance- The French and Japanese companies have formed an alliance a few years ago and today, they have stakes in car companies such as Renault, Nissan, Infiniti, Dacia, Datsun, Samsung Renault, Lada, and Mitsubishi. BayerischeMotoren Werke- BMW is known for making luxury cars but the company also owns several other luxury car manufacturers. Rolls Royce and MINI are two companies owned by BMW. Not to forget, the company also owns a motorcycle division. Tata Motors- One of the biggest car manufacturers in India, Tata Motors is the parent company of Tata, Jaguar and Land Rover. Ford Motor Company- There was a time when Ford owned companies such as Volvo, Jaguar Land Rover, Mercury, Mazda and Aston Martin. However, at present, the American company only has stakes in Lincoln and Aston Martin. General Motors- Another American company, General Motors had several car companies under its name but GM filed for bankruptcy in 2009 and therefore, it had to sell a few of the owned companies such as SAAB and Pontiac. At present, GM owns Buick, Chevrolet, Cadillac and GMC. A few years ago, GM also sold the stakes of Opel and Vauxhall. PSA Group- Legally known as Peugeot S.A., the French firm has brands such as Peugeot, DS Automobiles, Opel, Citroen, and Vauxhall under its banner. Zhejiang Geely Holding Group (ZGH)- Last but not least, Chinese corporation Zhejiang Geely Holding Group owns companies such as Lotus, Polestar and Volvo.
