Believe us when we say this, our beloved Sharma ji scored two centuries after two major life events
The Indian Test cricket outfit has already reached Perth, Australia, training for the first game of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy from November 22. While all the eyes are on Virat Kohli, who is expected to find redemption, Indian fans also want Rohit Sharma to show his prowess with the bat.
It is pretty funny that we came across a weird fact on the internet that states that Rohit Sharma is expected to hit a century in the very first game of the series against the Aussies despite his recent slump and whitewash at the hands of the Kiwis on Indian soil.
So, what is this weird but extremely hilarious fact that has forced us to go ROFL?!
December 13, 2015, was the day when Rohit Sharma got married to RitikaSajdesh. The two had known each other for six years, with Ritiki managing Rohit’s cricket engagements. Their professional relationship soon turned into a personal one, and in 2015, Rohit proposed to Ritika at the Borivali Sports Club, and they got married the same year.
But what has all this got to do with Rohit’s 100?
Well, it turns out that the first cricket match that Rohit Sharma played after getting married was against Australia, a one-day on January 12, 2016, in Perth. Batting first and opening the game, Sharma ji had scored 171 runs in 163 balls which included 13 fours and seven sixes at a strike rate of 104.90.
Sharma had batted till the end and was not out in that game. Unfortunately, though, India lost the game by five wickets as Steve Smith and George Bailey scored 149 and 112 runs, respectively.
Three years later, on this date, Rohit’s wife, Ritika, gave birth to the couple’s first child, Samaira. And guess what? Rohit Sharma returned to international cricket with his first game against Australia – an ODI played on January 12, 2019, in Sydney.
Batting first, Australia had posted a target of 288 runs. In the second innings, Rohit Sharma took the onus on himself and scored 133 runs in 128 balls, including ten boundaries and six sixes at a strike rate of 103.10.
However, similar to the 2016 game, the entire Indian team faltered except for MS Dhoni and Bhuvneshwar Kumar, who scored 51 and 29, respectively, but it wasn’t enough. India lost the game by 34 runs.
A week ago, Rohit and Ritika welcomed their second child, a baby boy, on November 15, 2024. The first international game that Rohit Sharma is set to play after welcoming his baby boy is the Test match in Perth against Australia.
See the coincidence? Well, if things go the way they have gone in the last two episodes, Rohit Sharma could hit a century, but it also means India could lose the game.
We certainly don’t wish to jinx it and hope that this time, a century by Rohit Sharma guides India to a victory.
