Amul To Launch Organic Tea, Sugar, & Jaggery: What Are The Science-Backed Benefits Of Eating Organic?

The company entered the organic food space back in 2022.

With growing health concerns among common people, the idea of eating organic has gained enormous popularity in recent times. Several companies from across the world are making waves in the organic food space, paving the way for a healthier future. And according to the latest reports, Amul is all set to launch organic tea, sugar, and jaggery in an effort to expand its organic product portfolio.

Notably, Amul entered the organic food space back in 2022 with Amul Organic Whole Wheat Atta. Currently, the company has 24 products in its portfolio and aims to tap a margin of India's $1.3 billion organic market, which is expected to reach $4.6 billion by 2028.

Jayen Mehta, managing director of The Gujarat Cooperative Milk Marketing Federation (GCCMF), shared in an interview, "We all want to eat food without chemical fertilizers and pesticides. The carbon content of the soil is becoming poor. If we start eating organic, the farmers will have to produce organic and there also needs to be a market for the same. We are telling the producers that there is a market and we are also informing the consumer of it.”

Well, this is inarguably a great initiative and deserves appreciation. And in this article, let's discuss some of the health benefits of eating organic food.

No Pesticides & Chemicals

In traditional agriculture, the use of pesticides and chemicals leaves residues on the foods, which further harms our health significantly. So, when you eat organic, you get reduced or no exposure to such toxic substances, which reduces your risk of numerous health issues in the long run.

Notably, a 2019 study in the United States found that switching to a 100% organic diet can reduce pesticide levels in the human body by 60%.

Higher Nutritional Content

The use of chemicals in traditional farming and agriculture destroys the nutritional content of food. On the other hand, thanks to the lack of chemicals, organic foods are high in vitamins and minerals, providing us with innumerable benefits.

A 2017 study found that organic foods have 20% higher antioxidant content than non-organic foods. According to experts, a higher dose of antioxidants in the body helps reduce the risk of chronic diseases including cardiovascular disorders.

On the other hand, a 2016 study published in the British Journal of Nutrition found that certain organic foods contain around 47% more omega-3 fatty acids than their non-organic counterparts.

No GMOs

GMOs or Genetically Modified Organisms are created by changing the genetic mechanisms of plants and animals. Many studies from across the world have found that GMOs are highly detrimental to human health, leading to a number of health issues.

Organic foods are free from GMOs, which means they are better for your health. A recent study found that consuming GMO-free products helps reduce the risk of hormonal disbalance in the body to a great extent.

These are some of the reasons why you should switch to an organic diet. In the long run, you may have better immunity, stabilized blood pressure, and enhanced skin & hair health among others.
