So far, Australia has played 66 Test matches at the Gabba
Australia is set to host India at the iconic Gabba Stadium in Brisbane for the third Test match between the two sides of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy (BGT). While India drew first blood in Perth and was expected to keep the momentum in its favour, Australia bounced back with a 10-wicket victory in Adelaide.
Next up, the third Test is scheduled to be played at the Gabba Stadium, a venue with a rich history and a galore of statistics that one must know before the game begins on December 14.
The Baggy Greens have always dominated their opponents at the Gabba, having played 66 Test matches so far at this venue. Out of 66, they won 42 matches, lost 10, and 13 games ended in a draw. Not to forget, only one match turned out to be a rare tie.
At the Gabba, Australia has a win-loss ratio of 4.2 (at least 20 Test games), which is the third-best by any team at a particular venue. In fact, from 1988 to 2020, Australia had enjoyed a winning streak at this venue until India defeated them. Unfortunately, the last four Test matches at the Gabba have been troublesome, given they won only two and lost the other two.

At the beginning of 2024, they also lost to the West Indies, giving the Windies their first win on Australian soil since 1997.
On the other hand, India’s performance at the Gabba has been really poor, winning only one game out of seven matches that India has played at the Gabba. However, the one game that India won was a historic win, given it destroyed Australia’s invincibility of 32 years. In January 2021, a heroic 89 by Rishabh Pant helped India chase the target of 328, sealing the series and defeating Australia.
Moving on to the overall team and individual statistics, let us begin with the highest total at the venue, i.e., 645 by a Donald Bradman-led Australia side in 1946 against England. On the other hand, the lowest total at the Gabba is an embarrassing record held by India, having gotten bundled 58 in the first innings in 1947.
When it comes to most runs, former Australia World Cup-winning captain Ricky Ponting continues to be at the top, with the most runs of 1,335 in 17 Test matches played at the Gabba. His average was 63.57, which included four centuries and a total of 10 fifties.
In terms of the highest individual score at the venue, Michael Clarke, batting at no. 5 against South Africa in November 2012, had etched 259 runs. Clarke’s double century was laced with 26 boundaries.
Speaking about statistics, one cannot forget the late legendary Shane Warne, who bagged 68 wickets at the venue in merely 11 matches at an average of 20.30. Three fifers and seven four-wicket hauls are also a part of his bowling achievements at Brisbane.

Finally, the best bowling figures in an inning and in a match both belong to Richard Hadlee. In 1985 against New Zealand, Hadlee had claimed nine wickets for 52 runs, which remains the best bowling figures in a Test game at the Gabba. Against the Kiwis, he also picked 15 wickets in a game that stands as the best in a Test match at the Brisbane Cricket Ground.
